Fleming Island, Oakleaf to clash for district title

FLEMING ISLAND - With two first-half interceptions; Gabi Musa and Emily Poucher, the Fleming Island High girls' flag football team powered to a 40-7 win over Orange Park in their district 3-2A tournament opener at Fleming Island High School on Monday.

Oakleaf won their first rounder with a 27-14 win over Bartram Trail to set up a Fleming Island vs. Oakleaf championship final on Wed., April 10 at Fleming Island. Fleming Island is 13-0. Oakleaf is 9-4.

Running back London Jenkins stole the show though with four scores on the day and an extra point run and pass while Poucher popped for two scores via air from quarterback Devyn Dudones. Poucher had scores of 12 and 26 yards.

At quarterback, Dudones used some fancy footwork to rush for 76 yards with 73 passing yards.

The Golden Eagles have won 45 of their last 48 games and finished as state runner-up last year. Their all-time record under coach Clint Lyons is 123-10.

At Bradford County High School, Keystone Heights (5-10) won their opener 21-0 over Baldwin and advanced to play top seed (6-1) on Tues., April 9 with that final also on Wednesday. Middleburg, 7-4 and the number two seed is set to play Tuesday in the other semifinal against the winner of Santa Fe vs. Baker County.

In district 8-1A, Clay, 8-1, is the top seed and will play Wed., April 10 in their semifinal against the winner of St. Augustine and Florida School for the Deaf and Blind with Menendez, the two seeds, playing Palatka on Wednesday in the opposite semifinal. Clay will host the final on Friday.

In District 13-1A, Ridgeview lost 18-14 to Liberty and ends their season at 5-8.
