MIDDLEBURG – According to Clay County Fire Rescue, firefighters rescued a man from a burning home this morning. A neighbor heard the smoke alarms and called 911. Within moments of arriving at the home on Oak Point Terrace in Middleburg, firefighters located and removed an elderly man from the heavily involved home.
The man was immediately treated and transported to a local hospital while responding units quickly brought the fire under control. The home is considered a complete loss, and no one else was inside. The State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and is investigating.
The same firefighters were doing routine training in search and rescue only hours before this call. They were able to quickly utilize that training to locate and remove the man from the burning home within minutes of their arrival.
The agency said it was proud and grateful for the skilled men and women we have at Clay County Fire Rescue, and its thoughts and prayers go to this man and his family.
