PRAY TOGETHER - STAY TOGETHER

Posted

Mother Teresa once said, “Let us love one another as God loves each one of us. And where does this love begin? In our own home. How does it begin? By praying together.”

Remember the old saying, “The family that prays together stays together.” This phrase has never been more true and more necessary than it is today. There are so many challenges facing families today that people have never faced before. While the advent of technology, including things like social media, has brought some good to our world, they have also brought unique challenges that have the potential to tear families apart.

Let’s be honest with ourselves: how often do you find yourself or a member of your family lost in their devices when it’s supposed to be family time? It happens to all of us! Having news, games, and email right at our fingertips at every moment is the ultimate distraction. Just knowing there are notifications waiting for you on your cell phone can quickly take you out of the moment and suck you into your device.

How do we combat this? It’s simple: prayer! Make prayer time a staple of the time you spend together with your family. “Unplugged” time with your family, a time when you carve out space WITHOUT devices, is crucial. Start and end that time with prayer, bookending your time as a family by drawing closer to the Lord together.

In Matthew 18:19-20, Jesus teaches, “I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”

We can rest assured that when we come together with our family to pray, Jesus Himself is there among us! Prayer as a family invites Jesus into your midst, and He will help your family to grow in ways you could never have imagined before.
