TALLAHASSEE – And then there was one.
The county’s fourth and final chance to advance to the state’s high school Final Four, Clay High baseball team, bowed out of the Class 1-5A tournament Wednesday night following a 2-0 loss against Tallahassee Lincoln.
The Blue Devils waited through two days of postponements created by severe weather, only to be held to two hits and two walks on Wednesday.
Clay High finished the season at 18-10.
On Tuesday, St. Johns Country Day School advanced with back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning to the Class 2A Final Four with an 8-6 home victory Tuesday against North Florida Christian. The Spartans (23-6) will play St. Petersburg Northside Christian (20-9) on Monday at 10 a.m. at Lee Health Sports Complex in Fort Myers in one of the Final Four games. The state championship will be played on Wednesday.
The Middleburg and Oakleaf high girls’ softball teams were eliminated in semifinal games. The Lady Broncos lost 6-0 at home on Tuesday to Gainesville in a Class 5A game, while Oakleaf lost at Oviedo Hagerty, 11-0, in a Class 6A semifinal game.
