ORANGE PARK - With football about to get rolling in about two weeks, area teams are trying to punch up as much action to prepare for pads and collisions.
Clay High hosted a multiple team 7-on-7 tournament that featured Oakleaf, Fleming Island and Clay, as well as state champion Trinity Christian Academy, Fernandina Beach and Ocala Forest. Oakleaf and Trinity Christian battled twice in the format before Oakleaf won the tournament, 31-18, against Trinity.
At Middleburg, the Broncos got off to a slow start on offense against a very athletic KIPP Bold squad, before quarterback Dalton Motes and wide receiver CJ Williams showed why they could be a lethal combo this season.
At Orange Park, the Raiders hosted Ed White, Episcopal and Beachside in a Jaguars Prep-hosted event that featured lots of air time for all teams. The Raiders also had a visit from U.S. Marine Corps, and they participated in a pull-up contest.
At Ridgeview, first year coach Jason Smith's fervor for heavy speed, conditioning and aggressiveness to the ball got a boost from three Jacksonville Jaguars and a Los Angeles Rams players - Davion Hamilton, Ty Hamilton, Dawuane Smoot and Josh Hines-Allen, who pumped up line of scrimmage tactics for the Panther's O and D Lines.
