Two Clay County high school football teams will stay on the road to keep their state championship playoff hopes alive next weekend after posting road victories last Friday in the first round of the Florida High School Athletic Association playoffs.
Three weeks after losing 18-7 to Mandarin, Oakleaf (8-3) got a fourth-quarter field goal from senior Andrew McDaid to break a scoreless second half, and it had two goal-line stands to beat last season’s state finalist 17-14 to move to the second round of the Region 1-6A playoffs at Nease on Friday, Nov. 22.
Fleming Island (8-3) rolled for 478 total yards, including 191 rushing yards from Cibastian Broughton and 133 from De'mhir Jackson, in a 35-28 victory at Mosley (Lynn Haven).
On Friday, the Golden Eagles will travel to Tallahassee Lincoln (9-2) for a 1-5A game.
Middleburg High’s (7-4) season ended, 49-13, with a 1-5A playoff loss to Niceville.
