10 years ago, 2016
• The murder trial for Anthony Washington starts. Washington was charged with killing Navy Cmdr. Alphonso Doss in 2014 at the Astoria Motel in Orange Park.
• The Orange Park Town Council transferred $87,263 from its reserved funds to balance its new fiscal budget.
• The Clay County School Board approved St. Johns Classical Academy’s charter, but it rejected the application from the Clay Classical Academy.
20 years ago, 2006
• The Monster Truck Show at the Clay County Fairgrounds included truck versions of “rodeo clown” maneuvers.
• Residents of Holly Point Road East flood the public hearing ahead of the start of construction of Doctors Lake Bridge to review the site plans and drawings of the project.
• A 53-yard touchdown pass in the final minute propelled Ridgeview to a 22-20 victory against rival Middleburg.
30 years ago, 1996
• The Clay County Board of County Commissioners considered an ordinance governing where cellular communication towers and antennas could be built.
• Sgt. 1st Class Lee L. Cogdill, 53, of Middleburg, died at Shands Hospital Gainesville after collapsing at Camp Blanding, where had just completed a physical fitness test and hour earlier during Florida National Guard training.
• Linda Jones of Lake Asbury was charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office following the beating death of her husband, Jack Jones. Three Orange Park men and a teen were arrested in the murder-for-hire scheme.
40 years ago, 1986
• Clay County Public Libraries, the Reach-to-Teach literacy group and the Clay County District Schools team up to form the Adult Literacy Initiative.
• Christy Raulerson of Green Cove Springs had a photograph of a tiger at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. and was selected to tour with the National 4-H Club’s Photo Exbibit.
• The Orange Park Town Council set the millage rate at 3.5 mills, despite objections from several town residents, including former council member David Brownell, who said the town lacks a significant reserve fund.
