• The Amazing Grace Family Farms in Green Cove Springs carved a massive crop maze to depict local swimmer Caeleb Dressel, who was set to compete at the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games. Dressel won gold medals in the 50- and 100-meter freestyles and 100 butterfly, and he was part of the winning 100 freestyle and medley relay teams at Tokyo.

• Orange Park’s Susan Smalling and her Havanese-Yorkie, Holly Mae, helped victims of the Surfside condominium collapse in South Florida to provide therapy as part of the Hope Animal-Assisted Response Program.

• Hundreds attended a rally and fundraiser at the Melrose Heritage Park to support 14-year-old Sage Pridemore on July 31 after he received a life-saving heart transplant two days earlier at the University of Florida.

10 years ago, 2016

• Oakleaf teen Kyle Graham is mentioned on a “Dirty Jobs” episode after Graham bought a $3,000, 17-foot boat with money he earned with his dog poop-scooping business.

• Florida House member Charles Van Zant of Keystone Heights paid $8,716.28 in property taxes levied by the Bradford County Tax Appraiser following a homestead exemption fraud investigation.

• The Town of Orange Park started a $3.9 million beautification project for the medians on Kingsley and Park avenues.

20 years ago, 2006

• County commissioners, judiciary and the community celebrated the groundbreaking for the $35 million addition to the Clay County Courthouse.

• Residents of Kingsley Beach RV Park were given a Sept. 6 deadline to move after the park was bought by Jacksonville investigator Michael Johnigean.

• River Road residents pushed the Orange Park Town Council to vote 5-0 to defeat a rezoning request to allow a counseling office on the corner of Wells and River roads.

30 years ago, 1996

• Rabies Control Coordinator Mike Linnane said no alerts were issued after a Keystone Heights woman was attacked by a feral cat.

• Atlantic Builders broke ground for the first of 90 homes in the Laurel Grove Plantation subdivision at the corner of Gano and Debarry avenues in Orange Park.

• Keystone Heights Mayor Archie Green, Vice Mayor Bob Alexander and council member Amelia Geisenburg debated the city’s proposed purchase of a cemetery from the Keystone Heights Cemetery Association.

40 years ago, 1986

• The school board voted 3-1 to pay Superintendent Ann Wiggins’ legal fees for her lawsuit against the board for challenging her decision to make several administrative transfers.

• A citizen-led committee created by the Green Cove Springs City Council reviewed 62 resumes and narrowed the list to 30 for the City Manager position.

• Orange Park insurance broker George Bush offered a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest for the suspects who shot out his office sign three times in three weeks.
