• Legal Assistant Beth Frill was selected as the Clay County Employee of the Year by Public Defender Matt Shirk.

• Kathryn Jackson, 45, and her boyfriend George Chaney, 49, are found dead in a home on Southlake Drive of an apparent murder/suicide.

• HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital donates $10,000 to the YMCA’s “Healthy Living” programs and initiatives.

20 years ago, 2006

• Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrest five and break up a car burglary ring on Wells Road.

• The Clay County School Board agrees, 5-0, to a land swap that could net them 99 acres in exchange for 21 acres on County Roads 315 and 209.

• A house in Pier Station is destroyed by a fire, but neighbors rescue a 74-year-old resident before firefighters arrived.

30 years ago, 1996

• Aaron Lee Geoghagan is the first baby born in either Clay or Duval counties at 12:02 a.m. at HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital to Tim and Stephanie Geoghagan. Aaron weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces.

• Refuse Services Inc., which Waste Management Inc. owns, files a lawsuit against Clay County, claiming the commissioners violated a contract agreement by trying to close down the Rosemary Hill Landfill.

• Members of the First Baptist Church of Orange Park agree to ban youth from using their parking lot for skateboarding because of the amount of litter that’s left behind.
