• The Clay Rebels cheerleading squad wins Pee Wee and Varsity national championships at Orlando.

• Clay High heavyweight Derrek Mosley wins the All-State Wildcat Wrestling Invitational at Valdosta, Georgia.

10 years ago, 2014

• Lisa Baker, a teacher at O2B Kids on Fleming Island, is selected by the Early Learning Coalition of North Florida as the Clay County Pre-School Teacher of the Year.

• The Clay County Board of Commissioners brings in specialist Michael Kahn to help them address how to keep the adult entertainment business out of the county.

• Clay County Sheriff’s Office Det. Johnny Hawkins is suspended without pay for 10 days after he mistakenly arrested an 18-year-old Clay High student, Cody Lee Williams, for sexual battery when the suspect was actually Cody Raymond Williams of Jacksonville.

20 years ago, 2004

• The Clay County Sheriff’s Office investigated a break-in and robbery at Doctors Lake Elementary.

• Two Lakeside Junior High teens were arrested and charged with burglary at the school after a woman walking her dog spotted them breaking into a Doctors Lake Elementary portable.

• The Jacksonville Jaguars cheerleaders, The Roar, visit the Orange Park Mall to raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network.

30 years ago, 1994

• A sharp drop in lottery sales means the Clay County District Schools received less money from the state. The district got $483,000 earlier in the year, but did not get another payment in 2004.

• After winning Miss Orange Park, Jennifer Webb wins Miss Jacksonville in June and advanced to the Miss Florida pageant.

40 years ago, 1984

• About 20 people from Clay County were notified by the IRS they were due refunds from 1983 for about $310.

• Clay County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Scott Lancaster said a possible bank robbery at Atlantic National Bank was foiled after a bank employee.
