SJR State student spotlight: Logan Schmidt

Posted

Logan Schmidt is a freshman at St. Johns River State College. He graduated from Oakleaf High in 2020, where he played baseball for the Knights before joining the Vikings at SJR State.

Here is a question and answer with Logan and his plans for the future.

Logan, what is your major?

As of right now, I’m majoring in business and seeing where that takes me.

What position do you play for the Vikings?

I am a right-handed pitcher for the SJR State Vikings baseball team.

What do you enjoy most about being a pitcher?

I enjoy pitching because I feel like I’m in my own element on the mound. No one else out there but me. And, the feeling that you get when you execute a pitch or get an important out for your team, there is nothing like it.

What has been the most valuable thing you’ve learned about yourself at St. Johns River State College?

I’ve only been at SJR State for a little while and have learned so much about my body and what it takes to have the drive and dedication to the game of baseball.

What’s it like to play for the Vikings?

Playing for the Vikings is great; you learn how to be a better player and a better man. Coach Ross Jones has been great by teaching me the ins and outs of pitching and letting me know when I execute a pitch. He also makes sure I know when I don’t execute a pitch and how to fix it. But the best part of our team is that we are a family and we all have each other’s backs no matter what. We are more than a team. We are a family.

Why did you select SJR State?

I selected SJR State because it fit with what I wanted out of a college. Coach Jones and I were on the same page when we first met, and I just knew it was the right place for me and my future.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I’m a big “live in the moment” guy, and I don’t take anything for granted because you never know what will come your way. That’s the way I was raised and I live by that. But in 10 years, I am hopefully living my dream and that is being a professional baseball player. If I stay on my track and don’t take anything for granted, I feel like I can achieve that dream of mine.
