Oakleaf march away with four first-place awards at Fleming Island Golden Eagle Classic

FLEMING ISLAND – The Oakleaf High band won Grand Champion honors with four first-place awards and two seconds to become one of eight to qualify for the state championships at last Saturday’s Fleming Island Golden Eagle Classic. The Golden Regiment won ensemble, general effect and visual team competitions, while Ponte Vedra High finished second in all three categories. Nease was third and Orange Park finished fourth. Oakleaf also finished first in the drum major competition and second in percussion and color guard. Ponte Vedra won percussion and color guard, while Nease was third in all three categories. The top-two teams in each classification will advance to the Florida Marching Band Championships at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala on Nov. 20-21.
