LAKELAND - In one of the strongest overall fields in boys weightlifting, Class 2A showed out on Friday in Lakeland with Choctawhatchee, the defending Olympic and Traditional champion, repeating in just Traditional while Leesburg dethroned the champions to take the Olympics team title by just two points with only 22 points as the FHSAA Boys Weightlifting Championship finished Class 2A on Friday with 1A and 3A set for Saturday, April 12.
Individually, Middleburg Unlimited lifter Charles Little was top finisher from the area in third place in Olympics with a 555 total that was well behind the top two lifters; Wyatt Vanderlois of Lemon Bay, first at 610, and Cayden Ricks of Yulee, second at 605.
Also in Olympics, Fleming Island senior Deh'Mir Jackson was sixth at 219.
In Traditional, with Choctawhatchee the team champion with 27 points to Fort Walton Beach's 14 for second, Middleburg's Sam Craven at 183 finished sixth with a 580 with 650 winning in that weight division.
From Clay, Zerek Migliore at 139 was fifth with a 465 total with a 540 the winning total.
Middleburg and Clay got more top 10s with Danny Raines at 169 in seventh and Trent Pavlus in Unlimited in sixth while Clay's Unlimited, Eli Oscoa, finished fifth.
Class 1A and Class 3A, Keystone Heights and Oakleaf, respectively, start their chase for titles on Saturday at 9 a.m. for lightweight divisions and 3 p.m for upper weight divisions.
