Local girl installs prayer wall, garden for community service initiative

Posted

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS–Green Cove Springs'   Hailey Porter designed, implemented and installed a prayer garden and prayer wall at North Florida Christian Camp in Keystone Heights as part of her capstone service project for American Heritage Girls.

An active member in the organization since kindergarten, Hailey chose the camp because it is a place that is near and dear to her heart, having attended as a student and as a camp counselor.

Hailey was responsible for every aspect of the project from calculating costs and fundraising and purchasing materials, to recruiting volunteers and making sure that tools, materials, safety measures and appropriate adult supervision were in place. She regularly communicated with the camp and was thrilled to receive reports of the many adults and students that were able to use the prayer garden and prayer wall throughout the summer.

A past recipient of the gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award, Hailey is passionate about community service, and, impressively, has accumulated over 500 hours of service during her high school years so far.

Members of her AHG troop gathered around in support and encouragement at a celebration for Porter on July 23.

Hailey is a member of Russell Baptist Church and is active as both a teacher and a student of dance. Hailey is homeschooled and has just finished her junior year.

She is the daughter of George and Laura Porter of Green Cove Springs.
