FLEMING ISLAND - With a grand slam homer in the 11/12s final by Zeke Brockhoff to fuel a 15-0 win by FIAA Storm over OPAA Crush Harris, a walk off RBI single for an 8-7 win by Oakleaf Knights 8U All Stars over FIAA 8U Storm despite a solo homer by FIAA 8U Storm's Kolt Brockhoff that was followed by an inside-the-park homer from teammate Remington Guth and a near miracle six run sixth inning that fell short in a 9-8 win for FI 10U Heat, who scored seven runs in the first inning, on Sunday over FIAA Storm 10U, the District 3 Little League baseball district tournament games held at Armstrong Park provided a host of baseball action for the opportunity to play one more week and for a state title.
In the 10-Unders final on Sunday, FIAA Storms 10U Heat took a tough 9-8 win over
"We play for a week in districts and based on the teams in the districts, the winners and the format of the state bracket, we may have five or six teams from this week's games advancing to state tournament games," said FIAA President Mike Hemple. "There is a lot of good baseball here and we want to send as many as we can."
With games starting on May 24 in brackets for 8-Unders, 9-Unders, 10-Unders and 11-12s, the three fields at Armstrong Park were filled with action, fans and even some rain.
"The schedule has been moved a bit because of flooding in some of the outfields, but we are moving as quickly as we can to get the water out and get the games through," said Hemple on Saturday with games moved to later in the day and on Sunday to complete the brackets.
Day one featured eight teams in the 8-Unders with teams from Green Cove Springs, Argyle, Oakleaf and Middleburg.
In 9-Unders, just five teams were brackets with FIAA Storm and Heat, OPAA, Oakelaf and Argyle competing.
In 10-Unders, 10 teams competed with Clay PAL sporting a team with FIAA and OPAA plus Oakleaf and Hammond Park.
Six teams were in the highly competitive 11/12s division. Teams advance to play in sectionals, state and the Little League World Series through August.
