FLEMING ISLAND—A new Jersey Mike’s Subs franchise will open on Fleming Island on Wednesday, July 10.
Located at 1560 Business Center Dr., the sandwich shop will reopen after a prior franchise on the island closed.
Franchisee Thomas Tyrrell said this one will be smaller. Tyrrell said that the Jersey Mike’s Subs franchises don’t need that much space anymore following the pandemic, after realizing people like the convenience of grabbing their food to go.
“That was like pre-Covid when they thought they had to have a big dining room and realized most people kind of like to grab subs and head home or back to work,” Tyrrell said. “So, we went with a smaller space.”
Additionally, Tyrrell said the new location makes access easier and more convenient, especially for those coming from Eagle Harbor.
For its grand opening, Tyrrell said the store will donate to Wolfson Children’s Hospital through July 14.
“The whole idea for the grand opening is to give as much money back to a local charity as we can,” Tyrrell said.
The franchise is Tyrrell’s first Jersey Mike’s endeavor. First visiting the shop in 2006, Tyrrell said it became a Saturday ritual for him and his family. When he and his wife wanted to branch out and start a business, he said that Jersey Mike’s was his calling.
“The main thing that grabbed me was their commitment to charities and to giving back to the community,” Tyrrell said.
For all of those who missed the franchise, Tyrrell said he is happy to bring it back to the area.
Tyrrell said he hopes to bring a comfortable atmosphere and connect with every customer who walks through the door.
“I need employees who want to talk to people,” Tyrrell said. “Because essentially the goal is, they need to leave happier than when they came in.”
