LCDR James E., “Jim”, “Jumbo”, Schneider, USN (Ret), 69, of Macclenny, FL, heard Jesus calling him home after a very courageous fight with cancer, on Monday, March 10, at his residence with his devoted wife at his side. Jim was born in Northampton, PA, to Peter and Dannye (Daniel) Schneider.
Jim was a proud graduate of Northampton High School where he starred in basketball with his brother Mike, winning a district championship and being named first-team all-state in 1973. He continued to play basketball at West Virginia University and Milligan College.
Jumbo’s career included flying as a Navy pilot as well as a Captain for FedEx, where he traveled the world and made life-long friends.
Jim was known as a man of faith whose actions centered on giving, not receiving. He was an active member of Orange Park Christian Church, serving many terms as an elder. He traveled to Haiti for over 20 years with Northwest Haiti Christian Mission, where he developed a deep affection for the Haitian people with a selfless and unconditional commitment to their well-being.
Survivors include his wife, Cherry; his children, James, Jacob, and Joshua (Stephanie); three beautiful grandchildren; his siblings, Peter (Kari), Cathi Krimmel, and Michael (Nancy); and a host of other beloved relatives, and friends throughout the country and abroad. He was preceded in death by his parents. Peter and Dannye Schneider and son, John Christopher VanVactor.
“If you didn’t know him, words are not enough; if you knew him, words are not necessary.”
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 29, at Orange Park Christian Church, Orange Park, FL
Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Orange Park Christian Church and Community Hospice & Palliative Care.
