How should Christians make decisions about entertainment choices?

Movies. Music. Social media. Streaming shows. Podcasts. Books. Entertainment is everywhere, and we all consume it. But as a follower of Christ, how do you decide what’s okay and what’s not? Where’s the line between enjoying life and compromising your values?

The Bible doesn’t give a playlist or a list of banned shows, but it does give a filter.

Philippians 4:8 says, “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

What you feed your mind eventually shapes your heart.

Entertainment isn’t neutral. It influences how you think, how you speak, what you desire and what you tolerate. That doesn’t mean you can never laugh at a sitcom or enjoy a good story. But it does mean asking: Is this pulling me closer to God, or slowly dulling my sensitivity to Him?

Every believer may draw lines in different places, but the Holy Spirit will often nudge you when something doesn’t sit right. Don’t ignore that. He’s not trying to kill your joy; He’s protecting your peace.

It helps to ask honest questions:

· Does this content glorify sin or glorify God?

· Does it stir up envy, lust, bitterness or fear?

· Would I be comfortable watching or listening to this with Jesus sitting beside me?

This isn’t about legalism. It’s about living with intention. You’re called to shine. And sometimes, that means turning something off, not because you’re “better” than anyone else, but because your soul is worth guarding.

Entertainment can inspire. It can also desensitize. Wisdom is knowing the difference and choosing what aligns with who you’re becoming in Christ.
