Week 2 review; Week 3 preview

Ridgeview lost 48-0 to West Nassau. The Panthers got robbed of an interception in the end zone with a pass interference call as West Nassau's running game easily blasted through the Panthers' defense.

Ridgeview, now 0-2, heads to Englewood, which got rocked 64-0 by Beachside, a 5A region playoff team last year in district 3-5A that sent four teams to region playoffs. Englewood lost its opener to Baldwin, 28-3.

Clay High, now 0-2, was beaten 43-7 by Yulee, with coach Jeff Gierke still winless after a close call in his opener against Fleming Island, which was as close as 28-20 before suddenly turning into a 42-20 loss.  The final score was not a true reflection of the game. Yulee loaded up their running game with a 177-yard effort by a freshman, Jayden Timmon, who scored twice.
Clay (0-2) will host unbeaten Middleburg (2-0), which has scored 44 and 56 in its first two contests, albeit it has yet to be tested by stellar opposition.
Middleburg High will bring an offensive six pack to Clay with Bronco coach Ryan Wolfe handling a bevy of weapons with quarterback Mason Bacus lighting up the skies with receivers Deshun Green and Jordan Williams. Bacus and Williams connected for three scores against NFEI in a 44-14 win. Bacus hit Lawson Padgett in the fourth for the game's final score. Broncos running backs Gino Addison and Brandon Ventura both scored a touchdown, with Middleburg getting a fumble recovery for a TD by Mason Peevy.

Orange Park opened up with a thriller against Oakleaf. A halfback pass from running back Xzavier Jones after a pitch from quarterback Gabe Taylor found a wide-open Brock Afllege to settle the Dungeon fans. Then they took their foot off the pedal to lose 56-7 to the Knights. Still, coach Marcus Wimberly got strong running in spurts from Aust'een Mills and Jones that penetrated the Knights' defense.
Orange Park will be the third Clay County team to face a 4A perennial playoff contender, Riverside High, which has played two tough games against Oakleaf and Fleming Island to warm up for the Raiders. Riverside has a big, fast quarterback that the Raiders defense will have to corral.

Keystone Heights (0-2) lost a 51-6 contest, giving up 45 points in the second quarter to perennial powerhouse Union County (1-1). The Indians will get a bye rest week before entering their gauntlet of a schedule to continue their season on Sept. 12 at home against 0-2 Newberry, which has losses to 4A Ocala Vanguard and 4A Palatka; 10-3 last year.

Keystone Heights also has Dixie County (0-2; losses to Lafayette 41-0 and Trenton 48-0; Rural state runnerup last year) and Bradford County (2-0, 10-2 last year, 24-0 over Baker County, 35-0 win over Dunnellon) on its schedule.
