I was driving on College Drive this week and I noticed a large sign on the side of the road asking me to oppose a roundabout being placed on College Drive and Old Jennings Road.
Is that part of the College Drive Initiative?
After consulting with the county's website and Impact Clay CEO Connie Thomas, no roundabout was ever planned for that intersection. Also, the intersection is a T-intersection, so a roundabout with that level of traffic wouldn't make sense.
The College Drive Initiative was one of four areas the Board of County Commissioners decided in 2020 to highlight for improvement. The others were the Wells Road Corridor, Clay Hill and High Ridge Estates in Keystone Heights.
College Drive was selected to beautify the roadway and make it a destination, not just a shortcut from Blanding Boulevard to County Road 220.
Dilapidated properties have been cleaned or removed, and a retention pond has been beautified – all to increase local business.
