MIDDLEBURG – A passenger with a warrant for simple battery in a traffic stop had to be pulled by her ponytail after she refused to get out of a truck on Oct. 25.
Amanda Nicole Smith, 38, of Jacksonville, now faces additional charges of resisting law enforcement with violence and two counts of battery on law enforcement after a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy pulled over a truck pulling a trailer on Blanding Boulevard because the trailer didn’t have lights or a tag.
The driver initially resisted but complied to identify himself. When the CCSO checked Smith's identity, they learned she had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. When they asked her to get out of the truck, she refused.
According to the arrest report, she put the shifter into gear and the truck started rolling forward. Another deputy used his car to block the truck. A deputy reached inside the truck, and Smith rolled the window up. After she refused to roll the window down, the deputy used a baton to break the window. Smith moved back to the passenger side and started climbing out the window. When a deputy grabbed her, she kicked him. After a short struggle, a deputy grabbed her ponytail and pulled her from the truck. While deputies tried to place her into custody, she continued kicking them.
Smith’s bond is $42,511.
