Lake Asbury opened with two quick scores in first half to appear ready to steal the Northeast Florida Athletic Conference football title from Oakleaf, but the pesky Yellow Jackets proved formidable in the second half as the Tigers defense, led by Trevon Sebree and Hunter Wyatt, plus an interception from Blaize Kocak prevailed 14-12 for the title.
Up 14-0 off scores from hard charging running backs Blaize Kocak and Patric Chaney, the Tigers, coached by Jarod Kocak, had to hold off after two scoring bombs from Oakleaf quarterback Kyron Spinek found the hands of wide receiver King Gibbs to close the game to 14-12 with 3:32 left in the third quarter.
In the second, defense held for the Tigers with defensive tackle Jamarian Lane and Aaron Goodvine applying pressure in the backfield while attempting to slow down the downhill running of Yellow Jackets back Kaiden Robinson and backfield partner Bobbie Gibbs.
Lake Asbury finished unbeaten at 8-0 while Oakleaf finished at 6-2 with both losses by two points to the Tigers; the season opener 22-20, and the final game 14-12.
