GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Teachers got a helping hand from the Clay Education Foundation’s Tools 4 Clay Schools program on Friday, Aug. 8, by picking up free school supplies at Garber Auto Mall and Keystone Heights Junior/Senior highs.
The foundation collects money and hosts events, such as Stuff the Bus on Aug. 1, to support teachers throughout the district, so they don’t have to purchase supplies for their students.
“This helps immensely,” said Samantha Watts, a 10th-grade English teacher at Fleming Island High. “This definitely will be used in my classroom.”
Watts said the first of four shopping days saved her about $100.
The event also included student volunteers, such as Griffin and Ryan from Fleming Island, and Daniel from Atlantic Coast.
The foundation reported that 614 teachers were able to stuff bags at the teacher resource stores.
The project was made possible by sponsors and volunteers, including The Bailey Group – an NFP Company, VyStar Credit Union, the State of Florida District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program, the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations, Garber Auto Mall and Congressman Aaron Bean.
