Steve Allen Creel, 67, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born on April 17, 1958, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Stanley and Christine Creel. Steve grew up in Lake City, where he was introduced to the family craft of brick and stone masonry as a young man. Working alongside his father, brother, and uncles, he developed a deep respect for the trade, an artistry he would carry with him throughout his life.
Steve had a deep love for reading, especially science fiction and history, and he had a lifelong passion for mechanical things. He enjoyed working on muscle cars, motorcycles, minibikes, and go-karts, and he always found joy in building and fixing things with his hands.
After graduating from high school, he spent much of his adult life self-employed as a mason before transitioning to a second career with the Florida Department of Corrections, from which he retired at the age of 64. Steve was a gentle, faithful man who loved his family deeply and will be remembered for his quiet strength and generous spirit.
Steve passed away from complications related to Parkinson’s disease, a condition he faced with dignity and perseverance. His journey serves as a reminder that this complex illness affects far more than public figures and deserves broader awareness and understanding.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Creel; his mother, Christine Creel; and his sister, Sharon.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Lydia Creel; his children: Rachel Creel (Deb), Jessica Bates (Charles), Samantha Creel (Julian), and Stanley Creel (Briana); and his cherished grandson, Felix. He is also survived by his brother, David Creel; his sister, Angela May (Kenny); and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A visitation will be held at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon, June 22nd, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. A celebration of life will take place at First Full Gospel Church in Lake City, at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 23rd, with interment to follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery. All who knew Steve or wish to pay their respects are warmly invited to attend and join the family for a meal and fellowship at the church following the service.
In honor of Steve’s memory, the family encourages you to live generously, sharing your time, your words, and your spirit with others. You never know what burdens someone else is carrying. Let Steve’s life be a reminder to extend grace, show kindness, and give freely whenever you can.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Pavilion at Penney Farms and to Community Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
