St. Johns Country Day School senior forward Victoria Sarka blasted away for three girls to fuel a 6-0 district 3-1A championship win over University Christian for the third district title of the week amidst a slew of games to determine possibly more in the next few days.
Earlier in the week, both Fleming Island and Keystone Heights girls weightlifting won their respective district titles in both disciplines of the sports; Olympics and Traditional.
At Fleming Island, on Thursday, Clay High's boys team won a 2-1 early scoring battle with Columbia to advanc to the district 3-5A final against Fleming Island. Fleming Island took a 6-1 semfinal win over Middleburg to advance. Middleburg won a 1-0 quarterfinal match against Ridgeview to get to the semifinal.
Also scoring for the Spartans were Madisyn Bauman, Isabell DeLeon and Adisienne Taylor. Last season, en route to the Class 1A title, the Spartans rolled through three region games and two state games with a 4-0 state title win over The Pine School last year.
For Clay, scoring both goals in the first half was Marvin Martinez.
In middle school action, at Lakeside, the Oakleaf Junior High boys basketball team defeated Green Cove Springs to win the Northeast Florida Athletic Conference title while, at Oakleaf Junior High, Lakeside defeated Wilkinson for the girls title.
Just a few 100 yards away at Oakleaf High School, the Orange Park High Raiders defeated Oakleaf 56-48 behind 20 p points from Ty Williams and 14 points from Austin Triggs.
Down in Kissimmee, Clay High wrestling will take on Pace High in the region final of the FHSAA Duals Tournament with a Blue Devil win putting the team into the state Final Four on Saturday, both events at Osceola High School.
And, in Lakeland, the Fleming Island High cheerleaders finished fourth in the Class 2A Medium Co-Ed division while Middleburg finished sixth in the Class 2A Medium Non-Tumbling division.
Clay was scheduled to be in the Class 1A Medium Co-Ed on Friday.
In District girls weightlifting, Fleming Island and Keystone Heights both won thei r respective team titles in both Olympics and Traditional scoring. Ridgeview was second to Fleming Island in both disciplines under first year coach Addyson Mauldin. Fleming Island is the defending Olympics state title with Middleburg, third in districts, the defending Traditional state champion. Regions will go to Baker County next week.
Also in girls soccer, Oakleaf lost 1-0 in their district semifinal to Fletcher as did the boys team who lost to 3-0 to Fletcher in their tournament.
Keystone Heights boys and girls soccer teams both advanced in district 4-3A into semifinal set for Friday with the girls team beating North Marion 7-0 with the Lady Indians getting two goals each from Halea Lam and seventh grader Ryleigh Thomas and one goal each from A Townsend, K Huntley and Kaylee Park. Keystone Heights will play Interlachen for the district title on January 26 at Interlachen.
For Keystone Heights boys soccer, the Indians had a second seed BYE advance to a Friday, January 23 semifinal with Eastside. Eastside beat Interlachen 10-0 to advance.
In district 3-1A, St. Johns Country Day School's boys team will play Harvest Community on Friday, January 23 in that semifinal
