Rodeo at the Ranch spurs financial boon for Seamark Ranch

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Last year’s Rodeo at the Ranch was a raucous success, so expanding it to two nights was supposed to double the fun and success.

And it succeeded all expectations.

The rodeo at Seamark Ranch on Friday and Saturday attracted hundreds of fans and many of the premier cowboys and cowgirls from the SKN Rodeo Productions – all to support a community program where boys and girls from broken homes live in a two-parent setting where they receive love, nurture, discipline and consistency that all children deserve.

Not only did the two-day event kick up a lot of dust, but it also earned more than $125,000 for the nonprofit, according to Seamark’s Mary Stanley, which will allow them to expand their services.

“It was a great event,” she said. “We were shocked by the crowds and by the rodeo itself. They were so good.”

Some of the events included bronc and bull riding, mutton bustin’, team roping and breakaway roping, junior bull riding, chute dogging (which is similar to steer wrestling, but without a horse) and barrel racing.

Seamark’s counselors, teachers and qualified volunteers address the therapeutic needs of the children and help each child develop.

One of the tremendous rides of the two-day event was an 87 score in bull riding by 17-year-old John Devin of Jacksonville on Saturday night. Despite his age, he’s second in SNK national rankings.
