ORANGE PARK – Moody Avenue is back open to drivers and pedestrians on Thursday afternoon. Construction started in early November after excessive rainfall caused damage to a box culvert between Connie Circle and Meadow Drive in September.
The rainfall was more than 18 inches in the two weeks before the collapse. The work was initially planned for completion on Jan. 31, and crews were able to open the road 37 days early – and within budget.
Crews will install a rail along the pedestrian walkway after the holidays. Commissioner Jim Renninger, County staff, DYE Clay Family YMCA staff and residents helped re-open the road Thursday.
