GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The Railroad Festival, in honor of the Clay County Historical Society's 60th anniversary, was a mix of characters, music, displays and vendors – all commemorating many of the historic accomplishments of Clay County’s past. One of the reenactments included J.C. Penney’s 1926 purchase of 120,000 acres of farmland near Green Cove Springs for a planned farming community now known as Penney Farms. Other festivities featured at the Historical Triangle on Saturday, May 9, were guided tours of the Historical Courthouse, Jail and Museum, displays of the Bob Hess, Penney Retirement and Camp Blanding train collections, local artisans and craft vendors, food trucks, live music, youth games, hands-on activities and a surprise visit by country music’s Wyatt Shane of Green Cove Springs.
