GREEN COVE SPRINGS - The Outreach Committee of Orange Park's St. Giles Presbyterian Church donated holiday gifts for a good cause last Tuesday.
To support the Quigley House ‘Adopt a Family' program, church members donated 19 boxes filled with games, clothing items, stuffed animals and more for those who need them most.
Church members Lynn and Richard gladly delivered the items to Quigley's outreach center and were welcomed with a grateful spirit by the staff.
“The congregation of our church never fails to amaze us with their generosity and support,” said Lynn. “It is heartwarming and inspiring.”
The yearly program invites members of the public–including local businesses and churches–to purchase and donate a range of wishlist items to about 50 survivors of domestic and sexual assault, along with their families.
Quigley House Director of Development Jackie Krug said that the families will receive the gifts personally wrapped and their names on the front on Christmas Day. Families will also receive a holiday meal.
Krug said that during the next few days after Christmas, the organization will continue spreading holiday cheer by giving gifts to other outreach families in need.
Krug said it’s important to acknowledge what people are going through during Christmas. Although joyful for some, some families don’t have a home or support system, so she said spreading awareness and giving back is necessary.
If you are interested in helping the Quigley House mission, there are other ways to support it at any time of the year. The organization has a wishlist of ongoing needs for donations, legacy and matching gifts, vehicle donations and Amazon Smile.
All proceeds go towards offering a 24/7, free emergency shelter to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Quigley House is the only dual-certified domestic violence and sexual assault center in Clay County. To speak with confidential support, call (904) 284-0061, seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
