FLEMING ISLAND -- Residents of the northern portion of Fleming Island are being advised to boil their water until the Clay County Utility Authority conducts a bacteriological survey of the public drinking water supply after service was interrupted for an emergency repair to the water distribution system.
Two consecutive days of satisfactory bacteriological samples are required before this advisory can be lifted.
While the water is off, CCUA recommends turning off all appliances that automatically draw water, including, but not limited to, washing machines, dishwashers, ice makers, water heaters and water softeners.
Service will be restored once technicians complete the repair, have flushed the water lines and measured disinfection levels to ensure water quality. Once this occurs, CCUA suggests you allow water to run in your kitchen and bathrooms for several minutes to remove any sediment or air that may have entered the system. If there is air in your system the water will appear milky, this is no cause for alarm, please flush the line until the air has been removed.
As an extra level of care following such an interruption, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) requires Clay County Utility Authority to notify you that you will be under a Drinking Water Advisory. As a precautionary measure and until further notice, you are advised that water used for human consumption (drinking and food preparation) must be boiled for at least three minutes.
For questions, call the Clay County Utility Authority’s office at (904) 272-5999 or 1-877-476-CCUA.
