ORANGE PARK - The Clay Guardians 8Unders football squad in Oakleaf and the Orange Park AA Raiders 12Unders at the OPAA fields showcased two fourth quarter thrillers as both teams advanced to playoff finals with thrilling wins on Saturday.
At the Oakleaf Athletic Associations field, the Clay Guardians defense had to hold off a whirlwind offense put forth by the Oakleaf Knights to walk away with a 12-7 win with the defensive line, led by end Eligh Pate's back-to-back sacks, keeping the explosive Oakleaf offense just outside the Clay Red Zone.
Clay Guardian running back Isaiah Hutchinson knocked out big chunks of yardage against the Oakleaf defense to put Clay into the end zone. Down Blanding Boulevard, at the OPAA fields, coach John Shipley's defense was tested early by the visiting Callahan Warriors. But the double dynamo duo of Kree Manning and Martez ONeill proved decisive in a 13-12 win for the Raiders.
On defense, defensive nose guard Charles Clark grabbed a crucial fumble to thwart a Callahan scoring drive.
