Newlywed Grissingers up for 'America’s Favorite Couple'

NAPLES — From childhood friends to young newlyweds, Olivia and Wyatt Grissinger are on top of the world.

They share love, friendship, and a blossoming new life together.

And, as a bonus, they're now hoping to add the coveted title of "America's Favorite Couple".

Currently in second place, rounding out the semi-finals, the two are well on their way to the final round of the nationwide competition. Sponsored by Colossal Impact and hosted by actor Jeff Goldblum and his wife Emilie, the contest aims to find the ultimate love story, while also raising money for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Oceana.

The final round of voting will determine the winning couple, who will receive $20,000 and a featured advertorial in Variety, accompanied by a special photoshoot.

This is the competition's inaugural year.

"That'd be really awesome to be the first winners," Olivia said.

Both local natives, Olivia, a Fleming Island High graduate and former Miss FIHS, said the two met at a family summer camp in Georgia nine years ago. They both said it laid the foundation for a love story they couldn't have ever imagined.

"I remember he had this green dirt bike. And my stepmom said, 'There's a cute blondie coming, you're going to love him.'"

She said the two remained friends for eight years before they began dating. They celebrated their engagement last August and tied the knot back in May.

"I think our relationship impacts a lot of people around us. We always get comments on how much we just suit each other. And how hard we work and how committed we are to the goals we have. And the dreams we have."

Olivia said she decided to join the contest after seeing it advertised. She initially didn't think they would go far, but both have been surprised by the outpour of support from voters.

"It's honestly crazy. We've been so grateful for our friends and family supporting. As well as some people on our social media following."

With the grand prize, Olivia said the two plan to put a portion of the money towards buying their first home next year. Olivia just graduated and landed her dream job, while Wyatt is working to grow his own business.

"That would just really add to kickstart our life together."

She said the other portion will be dedicated to their love of cats. They plan to donate to an animal shelter in Naples, where they currently reside, to help provide toys, care, and food.  Olivia said she worked extensively with the Safe Animal Shelter in Middleburg.

The Grissingers said they are excited for what's next and are well on their way to their fairytale future.

"It would be cool to win. And let's win because we really do resemble a super faithful and strong couple. Not just romantically, but our friendship is so strong."

If you would like to vote for the Grissingers, visit The Grissinger's | America's Favorite Couple.  Voting for the final 14 couples ends Thursday, Aug. 28, at 10 p.m. Votes can be casted daily.

Final round voting begins on Aug. 29, and the winning couple will be announced on Sept. 19.
