MIDDLEBURG – Nearly 300 children will head back to school with new bookbags, supplies, shoes and a haircut following the Salvation Army’s Bless the Backpacks: Tools for Tomorrow giveaway on Friday, July 24. According to Capt. Tim Scott, their supply of back-to-school items was depleted by parents and guardians who reserved a bag. He also said future events would be more targeted to groups and organizations instead of the public. “There are so many bookbag events now we’re likely to move our focus in the future,” Scott said. “We think we’d be better served to work with groups. That way, more can be served.” Bookbags were laid out in the pews of the Worship Center. They were divided into groups for elementary, junior and senior high students. All guests received extra school supplies from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, a free lunch, and they had the opportunity to pick out shoes and a new toy.
