ORANGE PARK – Officials with Moosehaven and Clay County Cruzers were treated to a tour of Grove Park Elementary and a warm greeting by the kindergarten and sixth-grade classes Tuesday ahead of their check presentations following last month’s Chili Cookoff and Car Show. Principal Justin Jones reminded guests from Moosehaven, the Cruzers, Orange Park Mayor Randy Anderson and the Clay County District Schools that English is not the first language of choice for as many as one in three first-year students. He also said, in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Club of America, the school also has one of the most robust after-school programs in the county at no cost to families and that students are fed dinner and receive snacks before going home. Some of the money will also “reimagine our outdoor spaces” since most students live in hotels and apartments on Wells Road. After the tour, Moosehaven’s Executive Director Helen Taylor presented the school with a $7,500 check, and Anthony Pudoff and Robert Frascello from the Clay County Cruzers added another $500. The ceremony ended with the kindergarten chorus singing “Jingle Bells” and both classes reciting the Grove Park motto. For more, visit claytodayonline.com.
