Middleburg girls’ golf finish 1-2-3

GREEN COVE SPRINGS - With the top three finishers on a hot, sunny afternoon at the Magnolia Point Golf Course, Braelyn Isbell led the Middleburg High girls’ golf team to a 206-252 victory against Clay, featuring a tough mud ball bunker shot to within three inches on the fourth hole on Monday.

Isbell, who finished first with a 9-over-par 45, had two pars during the afternoon, with runners-ups Emily Martin and Jordan Bork, both sophomores at Middleburg, tied for second at 52. Clay senior Cora Parker was the first Blue Devils finisher, tied at fourth with Middleburg's Chloe Toney at 57.
The rest of the field had Clay's Charlotte Glavin at 60, Clay's Lillian Bishop at 64, Clay's Liillie Preckajlo at 71 and Middleburg's Olivia Anderson at 72.
In boys’ action at Eagle Harbor Golf Club on Fleming Island, Orange Park High defeated Middleburg and Palatka. The Broncos had the top two finishers with Michael Susser at 40 and Elias Hernandez at 45. Middleburg's Garet Howard and Ricky Harpster had 50s.

The Fleming Island's boys’ team, the two-time state champion and led by 2023 state champion and senior Tyler Mawhinney, returned home after a match at Ponte Vedra last week against Oakleaf on Tuesday, Aug. 26, then returned home to play fourth-ranked Beachside on Wednesday, Aug. 27.

The Fleming Island boys are currently ranked fifth in Class 2A and 15th in Florida.  Beachside is currently ranked No. 1 in Class 3A after three matches.
