Our beloved “Granny,” Lucille Ann Smith, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 24, 2024 at Haven Hospice in Orange Park, Florida surround by her loving family. Lucille was born on March 29, 1937, in Peoria, Illinois, she lived a life full of love, and devotion to her family.

Survived by her husband of 69 years, Jerald E. Smith, and their three children: Michael E. Smith and Steven J. Smith (Marlene).

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cherie L. Angel (2017).

She leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, having spent her life caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Granny always made sure her family never went without a warm, home-cooked meal. Her love was constant and unwavering, and everyone who knew her always felt it deeply.

Lucille’s love and devotion extended to her grandchildren: Jason M. Smith (Leigh), Kelly L. Angel, Jamie L. Angel, Jason A. Smith (Tabitha), Alishia Tower (Phillip), Alexis C. Smith, and Samantha K. Smith.

Great-grandchildren: Cassidy P. Smith, Kaitlynn M. Smith, Eugene C. Perkins IV, Makayla M. Perkins, Landyn M. Smith, Aiden C. Smith, Astrid A. Smith, Avery J. Smith, Noah I. Tower, and Oliver W. Tower.

Granny never met a stranger and her warmth and generosity touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially elephants. She supported causes such as the Breast Cancer Awareness Society, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and the Jacksonville Humane Society.

As a breast cancer survivor for over 20 years, Lucille’s strength and resilience were an inspiration to all. Her greatest joy was in her family—the ones she cherished and cared for with boundless love.

A generous soul, Granny’s spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.

We love you, Granny—”a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck.”

A memorial service to celebrate Lucille’s life will be held at Black Creek Methodist Church, 3925 Main Street, Middleburg, FL 32068, on February 1, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
