Lana Maria Smith, 50, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Lana was born on September 15, 1976, in Würzburg, Germany, and was raised by her parents, Birgit and Joseph Glennan, alongside her younger sisters, Rebecca and Caroline. Growing up in a military family, she attended school in Germany and Louisiana before graduating from La Porte High School in Texas in 1995.
After high school, Lana enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where she served in satellite communications and attained the rank of corporal. She married Jonathan O’Dell, a soldier in the U.S. Army, and together they had three sons: Tyler, Zachary, and Matthew. Army life carried the family to New York, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Germany, and with every move Lana made a new home and new friends. She worked hard to provide for her sons, often taking night shifts and holding more than one job at a time, and she was always drawn to work that kept her among people. She never met a stranger.
In Florida, Lana came to know the Lord through her father, Dave Trantham, and she found her home with Gary Smith. They married and settled on the St. Johns River, next door to Gary’s mother, Jeanine, and filled their days with the things they loved most: fishing, cooking together, and trips to Cedar Key. It was everything she had ever wanted.
Lana was humble and quick to laugh. She put everyone else before herself, and though she lived far from most of her family, she was the glue that kept everyone connected.
Lana was preceded in death by her father, Dave Trantham, and her grandparents.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Smith; her sons, Tyler (Laci) O’Dell, Zachary O’Dell, and Matthew O’Dell; her parents, Birgit and Joseph Glennan; her stepmother, Jan Trantham; her sisters, Rebecca Shannahan, Caroline Glennan, and Jannette Profilio; her brothers, Daniel and Darren Trantham; her mother-in-law, Jeanine Smith; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Hickory Grove Cemetery with Pastor Ricky Bybee officiating.
Semper Fidelis.
