ORANGE PARK — Florida TaxWatch presented a Lakeside Elementary student and the school's principal with distinguished accolades on Monday.
Principal Dawn Wolfe took home the Florida Principal Leadership Award, one of only five elementary principals in the state to receive the honor.
The award program was established back in 2013 and is given annually to the state’s greatest principals who have had an "astounding" impact on their students. Florida TaxWatch said the award is Florida’s only data-driven principal recognition initiative.
During her acceptance speech in front of the school’s sixth-graders, Wolfe expressed her gratitude to them.
“I’m very fortunate to have worked 30 years [in] Clay County,” Wolfe said. ”And most importantly that I get to come work here with you guys every single day.”
In addition to the leadership award, Wolfe also presented sixth-grade student Logan Colson with a two-year Florida Prepaid college scholarship in a partnership with the Florida Lottery — another aspect of the program.
Wolfe described Colson as one of the kindest individuals she has ever met with big dreams for the future.
