ORANGE PARK – Most of the parents at Saturday’s Orange Park Community Sports Day were photographed by Clay Today Sports Editor Randy Lefko when they were younger athletes, and now it was their children’s turn to be the subject of one of Lefko’s action shots. After working at the morning football clinic at the Orange Park Athletic Association, the clinic organizer, the Edward and Annie Lee Keyes Foundation, honored Lefko with its Community Award. “I know that it hasn't been a job for him,” Edward Keyes said. “It's been such a pleasure for him to be out amongst the kids, because I see it on his face every time he's covered all of us. He has covered all of us. He knows everybody's name when he comes out here.” The message on the glass statue read: “Thank you for your unwavering dedication to covering Clay County athletics for more than four decades. Your passionate commitment to documenting these moments has created treasured memories that will endure for generations.” Lefko looked at the children who had just finished three hours of football drills and delivered a poignant message, saying: “I love seeing competition, no matter what size it is. I see you guys out here running and cutting and catching passes and stuff like that. It makes me proud to be here. When you're on the field, be emotional. I can tell you, man, get the passion. It's an emotional game, no matter what game you're playing.” Then he vowed to be around when they become high school and college stars, and take their action photos from the sidelines. Lefko returned to OPAA Saturday evening for the Basketball Skills Challenge. For more information on the camps, please refer to page 23 in Sports.
