TALLAHASSEE -- Two people were fatally shot Thursday at Florida State University, according to the Leon County Sheriff's Office.  The victims were not FSU students.

The suspect in custody was identified as Phoenix Ikner, 20, son of a sheriff's deputy. Responding officers shot and wounded Ikner on the scene, Sheriff Walt McNeil said during a Thursday news conference.

There is no further threat on the campus, officials said.

As reported by our news partners at News4Jax, officials said at least six people had been hospitalized. The active shooting incident was first reported by the school's alert system at 12:02 p.m. and occurred in the campus' student union, Oglesby Union.

According to an FSU alert on its website, all classes and business operations are canceled through Friday, April 18. All FSU athletics events in Tallahassee are canceled through Sunday.

At 3:20 p.m. Thursday, the school posted this alert:

"Law enforcement has neutralized the threat. Avoid the Student Union, Bellamy,  HCB Classroom Building, Rovetta A&B, Moore Auditorium, Shaw, Pepper, Hecht House and Carraway as they are still considered an active crime scene. Individuals who may have witnessed anything of value should call (850) 891-4987."

Anyone in need of immediate emergency assistance should call 9-1-1 or FSUPD at 850-644-1234.
