GREEN COVE SPRINGS – As the city council voted to make Mike Null its interim city manager ahead of Steve Kennedy’s retirement on Nov. 14, it learned Finance Director Sue Wang will also be leaving.

“Every time I asked for numbers you gave,” Mayor Matt Johnson said during Tuesday night’s regular session meeting. “I have absolute trust in you to this day, and your service to Green Cove Springs. We will be feeling that in a positive way for many years.

“So, we are losing the two giants, Mr. Kennedy, and just going through the process and going through the process with Mr. Null stepping in as interim city manager. We’re going to be fine, but we're going to feel it. I'm just telling you, Miss Wang, we're going to feel it. You will be missed. I want you to know that.”

The news came on a night when the police department celebrated the promotion of Austin Graham, who was elevated from Sergeant to Commander.

In other business:

• As expected, Mike Null was appointed Interim City Manager, effective Nov. 15, while the city searches to replace Kennedy.

• The council approved a three-year 15% performance maintenance bond of $33,574.02 for the second phase of the Rookery development.

• Approved spending $54,000 to Tocoi Engineering for the Gustafson Regional Park trail design.

• Approved spending $56,500,51 to Accurate Power and Technology for the installation of an upgraded generator at City Hall.

The city council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
