FLEMING ISLAND - Calling all young actors and performers!

The Spotlight Center is beginning acting camps this summer and is looking for some talented youth to take the stage.

From June 2 to June 20, the three, one-week programs will teach campers from 8 to 16 years old what it takes to work and create a full production. The camp classes will include audition techniques, turning scenes into songs and dancing.

Filled with other theater activities, campers will practice their skills leading up to a grand showcase at the end of each week.

The first showcase will be "Disneymania" themed, using performances and songs from their favorite Disney animated movies. The second will be "Storybook Adventure" themed, highlighting popular literature pieces, including Tuck Everlasting, Willy Wonka and Matilda. And the third will be "Born for Broadway" themed, mirroring hit musicals that featured children in starring roles, including Annie and Gypsy.

Each camp will run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a showcase performance each Friday at 6 p.m.

A camp tuition of $250 includes two tickets to the showcase and a camp T-shirt. Additional tickets for the showcase can be purchased at the Box Office or the door. Camp discounts are available for families with multiple children and Season Members.

There will also be an additional two-week summer camp intensive beginning on June 23. In this camp, the young actors will get to work alongside Broadway-trained professionals, taking classes in vocal studies, improvisational work, dancing and more. During the second week, the students will join the adults to learn the rehearsal process.

This camp, which runs from July 5 to Aug. 2, will culminate in students participating in official onstage performances of Matilda.

The intensive is $350 a child, with discounts for siblings and those with a Family Plus Membership.

The center also offers a 15% discount to camp participants who register by March 31.

This is the center's first time running the camps at this location, and it is excited to continue engaging with the community.
