JACKSONVILLE – More than 100 students from the Clay County District Schools attended the Construction Career Day Northeast Florida event Thursday at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center to get a hands-on experience from companies throughout Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.
They experienced how big machinery worked, how technology and engineering applied to infrastructure projects and were immersed in the importance of safety applications.
Gage attended the expo last year, but the Oakleaf senior said he learned new things on his second visit.
“I learned how to operate some heavy machinery,” he said. “I took a bunch of flyers to consider some of the opportunities.”
Another Oakleaf student, Elizabeth, said she didn’t realize there were so many different types of dirt.
