JACKSONVILLE - Jonah Cook will soon be packing winter coats, hiking gear, snow pants and pairs of wool socks for the trip of a lifetime on Dec. 15.
Jonah and his entire family will be heading to the snowy mountains of Park City, Utah.
The super wish was granted by Dreams Come True, a nonprofit dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of children battling life-threatening medical conditions. Last year, Jonah was involved in a tragic accident that left doctors not sure if he would survive.
"He couldn't move anything in his entire body. It's like he was paralyzed for months," said Jessica Cook, Jonah's mother.
"You don't know how strong your kids are until you're in that situation yourself, either."
Now, he's doing better than ever. And on his way to both a speedy recovery and an ultimate holiday vacation. During a special grand reveal on Monday, Dec. 1, the Cooks learned they would explore the Utah mountains for five days, staying at the Sundail Lodge. Together, they will go snow tubing and snowmobiling, and take a private sleigh ride.
The family will also have a full day to explore the city and dog sled at Rancho Luna Lobos.
For Jonah, dog sledding is what he's most excited about. He's never seen snow and is ready to take a step into the countless scenes he's watched on TV.
"It's just the Christmas theme and spirit is what I wanted to be around," he said.
"He kept just saying he wanted a trip, and it took us a little while to figure out that really what he wanted was just to be with his family and do something together," Jessica said. "Everybody's getting older and everybody's kind of doing their own thing. So, he wanted snow, and he wanted family. So, that was a big deal for him."
The entire trip is sponsored by Berkshire Hathaway Energy, a supporter of Dreams Come True since 2021. Jessica said she couldn't put into words how grateful she was to the nonprofit for organizing the trip.
"It's so much more than we thought it would be. Just knowing that people have really put into making sure that it's so special for him," she said.
Also there to witness Jonah's dream reveal was 17-year-old Chloe Walker, who received her dream she-shed on Nov. 18. Walker was involved in the same accident and left with only a 5% to 90% chance of recovery. The two have been deemed 'walking miracles' by their families and the community.
"Neither of them should be alive for different reasons. There's absolutely no medical reason that either of them should have survived and be where they are," she said.
"God was with those children."
