GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Around 9 a.m. on July 30, detention deputies with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office were alerted by inmates that another inmate, 20-year-old Jarel Walker-Webb, appeared ill and unresponsive.
Deputies responded to the medical emergency and performed lifesaving measures on Walker-Webb until relieved by Fire and Rescue personnel. Unfortunately, all efforts were unsuccessful.
The cause of death is unknown, and there were no apparent signs of trauma.
A search of court records revealed that there is no updated information available about why Walker-Webb was in the Clay County Jail.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was notified and will be the primary investigating agency in conjunction with the Medical Examiner’s Office.
