GREEN COVE SPRINGS — Clay County Early Literacy is inviting community members, businesses and organizations to participate in “Give Like Dolly Day” on Sept. 25, a new annual tradition established by The Dollywood Foundation to honor Dolly Parton’s lifelong commitment to children’s literacy and generosity.
Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the local program currently provides a free, high-quality, age-appropriate book every month to 1,500 children from birth to age 5 in Clay County ZIP codes 32073, 32043, and 32234. Donations help cover the mailing and delivery costs associated with getting these books into the homes of local children.
“Dolly Parton’s vision was simple yet profound: to put books into the hands and hearts of children everywhere,” said Mary Bolla, former teacher and Vice President of Clay County Early Literacy. “Through ‘Give Like Dolly Day,’ our community has an opportunity to carry that legacy forward. Your donation can help ensure that a child receives a new book in the mail every month—building a home library before they ever walk through the kindergarten door.”
How to “Give Like Dolly” on Sept. 25:
Donate directly: 100% of donations made to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library via tinyurl.com/claycountybooks go toward putting books in the hands of local children.
Spread the word: Share the campaign with friends, neighbors, local businesses and organizations on social media using #GiveLikeDolly and encourage others to support early literacy in Clay County.
Sponsor a child: Help Clay County Early Literacy maintain and expand the program so more young children can build a home library before entering kindergarten.
Every contribution helps bring the joy of receiving a new book each month into the home of a young child—and helps nurture an early love of reading and learning.
