Chloe Walker's dreams come true with new she shed

Newly designed space a surprise for 17-year-old car crash survivor

CLAY COUNTY —Just one year after a tragic accident that changed her life, 17-year-old Chloe Walker is speeding through her road to recovery.

And having her dreams come true along the way.

The Dreams Come True Foundation hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for Walker, who was surprised with the she shed of her dreams on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

"I don't have any words. I feel so much support from everyone," Walker said.

Family and friends showed up to help Walker ring in her big surprise. The elegant space was built in her backyard.

Last November, Walker was involved in a tragic car accident that left her severely injured.  Doctors had only given her a 5% to 90% chance of recovery.

After getting word of Chloe's condition six months ago, Dreams Come True, which grants dreams to children facing life-threatening medical conditions, partnered with the local community to make it happen.

Emerald C's Development was responsible for bringing the concept to life.

With a crowd of special guests watching, including a host of partners, care teams, electric and construction companies, and designers who helped make the dream happen, Chloe made her way down the stairs and across the sidewalk, joy on her face.

It was her first time seeing the shed, although the crew had been working for about 2 and a half weeks, eight to 10 hours a day.

"I reached out to some really generous, thoughtful, talented people that I get to work with every day, and I just said, 'We've got someone who's very deserving, can you help,'" said Brittany Culbreth, with Emerald C's Development.

The shed was something Walker had thought about for a while before making her final decision. From the color scheme, bohemian wall drapes and comfy couch to the flat screen television mounted on the wall, the treadmill that sits in the corner and the tiny blue refrigerator on the floor, Walker said it's more than she could've ever imagined.

"I think it was better than I wanted," she said.

Just outside the shed also lie specially painted empowerment rocks from community members, and a heart-shaped scribbled next to the shed. A reminder of how far she's come.

"After meeting Chloe, she just exemplified everything that everyone should aspire to be. The perseverance, the pushing through, doing the hard things," Culbreth said. "We really took on this job as something like, okay, if she could imagine what her dream would be, how do we make it better than that?'"

Everyone she knows calls Walker a miracle.

She said she plans to use her shed to satisfy her newfound love of reading and, of course, host some fierce "Just Dance" competitions.

"I think my friends will come over a lot and hang out."
