KISSIMMEE - Middleburg High's trio of Porter Loveland, Micah Thomas and Jonathan Harp remain as the Bronco lineups' only wrestlers are still alive in the chase for a Knockout Christmas Classic title after day one action concluded.
And Saturday will bring more championship action leading to the championship matches.
Harp at 106, Thomas at 150 and Loveland at 215 all advanced to their respective championship rounds on Saturday with Harp winning two matches; 14-4 and 19-2; Thomas getting a BYE and a 3-0 win and Loveland getting a BYE and a 3-0 win to advance.
Update: Loveland finished third at 215, losing a tough 1-0 semifinal to eventual champion, Cardinal Gibbons Peter Mocco, son to 2008 U.S. Olympic wrestler Steve Mocco and brother to Iowa wrestler Michael Mocco.
Harp, at 106, finished in the consolations round five and Thomas finished also in round five on consolations at 150.
Middleburg had four wrestlers—Chris McKeel at 144, Keensdee Roseme at 190, Nathan Harvey at 126 and Sean Blouin at 165 —still alive for medals in the consolation rounds on Saturday.
St. Johns Country Day School has two wrestlers—seventh grader Bryce Fiore at 113 and Howard Hill at 157—still in championship round action. Fiore has a BYE and a 14-1 win with Hill advancing with two 3-0 wins.
Fleming Island had five wrestlers and still has JD Linn, 1-1 at 138, and Zion Longmire at 175, 2-1 with two byes and a 12-10 loss, viable to consolation medals.
Matthew Braddock, at 144, finished 1-2 with Landon Johnson at 126 0-2.
