Broncos head to No. 2-Beachside

Led by another ferocious barrage of scoring shots from senior outside hitter Camden Rahn and explosive blocks from Kathryn  White and Maysie Bader, the Middleburg High volleyball team won their region 1-5A opener 3-0 over Lynn Haven Mosley to advance into the region semifinals.

Middleburg, under then first year coach Meredith Forkum, won the 2023 Class 5A title, but was ousted last year by Beachside in the same region semifinals.

In two other area region openers, Fleming Island lost a 3-0 match to a resurgent Ponte Vedra team and Keystone Heights lost 3-0 to Montverde Academy in region 2-3A action.

Ponte Vedra, 15-12m who upset state number two ranked Beachside for the district 4-5A title a week ago, continued their strong post season run with a tightly fought  performance against Fleming Island (25-12, 25-22 and 25-18). Fleming Island lost 3-0 to Middleburg in the district 3-5A championship game.

For the Broncos, who now will travel to Beachside for their semifinal match on Saturday, October 25 with a 2 p.m. start, the matchup features a rematch of last year's region semifinal that Beachside won over Middleburg in the Middleburg High gym. Beachside (25-3) defeated Tallahassee Leon 3-0 to advance. Beachside did beat Middleburg 3-1 on September 30.

Fleming Island finishes at 19-8. Ponte Vedra will advance and take on No. 1 Tallahassee Chiles, who beat Choctowhatchee 3-0 in their region opener.  That game is also at 2 p.m. in Tallahassee.
