104 sure looks good on Orange Park's Eleanor Pendley

ORANGE PARK — At 104 years old, Eleanor Pendley is still active and full of life.

Known as “Super G,” you can almost always catch her doing her hair and makeup, piecing together her latest puzzle, playing BINGO, tending to her plants and enjoying happy hour at Palagio Senior Living.

And on Monday, Oct. 26, the resident celebrated her birthday milestone doing what she does best — living a life full of joy and possibilities.

“You have to just accept it one day at a time,” she said.

This year, her birthday wish was to bask in some Sunday football. She watched her grandson, former Jaguars quarterback and current Detroit Lions quarterbacks coach Mark Brunell, and his game against the Green Bay Packers. And she had a spaghetti dinner with her family.

Born in Wilson Creek, Washington, Pendley was the ninth child in her family.

By the time she was 12 years old, both her mother and father had passed away. She said it was her siblings who stepped in to help raise her.

Pendley worked for the Spokesman-Review Newspaper. She also volunteered at a local senior center and her church until she was 85. After officially retiring, Pendley said she moved to the suburbs of Seattle to be near her daughter.

She thought that would be her last move. That was until she visited her granddaughter in Jacksonville. Enjoying the Florida sunshine, she gave in to the encouragement and moved one last time at 98.

Spending time with her family, including her three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and great-great granddaughter, are always at the top of her to-do list.

And while Pendley has seen the world through decades of changing lenses, she has one piece of constant advice for the generations coming after her:

"Slow down a little bit and take each day at a time."
